Michel Roux Jr is one of Britain's most acclaimed chefs. Here he shares his life story, growing up a member of the Roux dynasty, and his knowledge and love of food. Peppered with his experiences and anecdotes, A life in the kitchen includes more than 120 approachable recipes with an emphasis on family cooking. These include recipes Michel remembers from childhood, those regional French dishes that are part of the repertoire of his extended family and those he enjoys cooking at home with his wife Gisele and daughter Emily.
Michel Roux Jr was born in Kent, where his father Albert worked as a private chef. After an apprenticeship with Alain Chapel he did his military service cooking at the Elysée Palace for President Mitterand. He took over running Le Gavroche in 1991, gradually adjusting classic dishes to the modern, lighter palate, and maintaining the restaurant's two Michelin stars throughout. He is currently host of BBC2's MasterChef: The Professionals.
Michel is a keen fisherman and an avid Man U supporter. He enjoys classic cars and running, and is a veteran of sixteen marathons (his best time: 3 hours 13 minutes).
