ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Inside the world of Kim Simonsson’s Moss People

Hardcover

Green, childlike figures carrying curious objects inhabit the sculptural world of Finnish artist Kim Simonsson. Tales of the Moss People introduces these characters through photographs and stories.

Sculpture, photography and storytelling

The figures’ moss-like surfaces are created using nylon fibres over dark-painted ceramics. Their poses, clothing and belongings give each character a distinct presence.

Stories by Veikko Halmetoja give the Moss People voices, thoughts and feelings. Photographs by Jefunne Gimpel reveal the sculptures’ forms, textures and unusual accessories. The book brings these different approaches together, allowing the figures to exist both as artworks and as characters.

This slightly revised second edition, published in 2022, contains 80 pages with numerous full-page illustrations. Graphic design is by Jarkko Hyppönen.
