About the Author(s):
Johan van Lengen (1930) is a Dutch-born architect and anthropologist.
- Career: He spent years working for the UN and the Mexican government, supervising self-build projects in developing regions.
- Institute: He is the founder of TIBÁ, an institute for bio-architecture in Brazil, where his methods are put into practice.
- Vision: His work is driven by the conviction that architecture is a basic right and that residents should be able to shape their own living environment with respect for the ecosystem.
