The first book in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. The story takes place on the Discworld, a flat disc carried through space on the backs of four giant elephants, which in turn stand on the shell of a huge star turtle. The book follows the adventures of Rincewind, an incompetent and cynical wizard, and Twoflower, a naive tourist from the Agatean Empire. Together, they experience all sorts of comedic and fantastical adventures.
Terry Pratchett (1948-2015) was an English author, humorist, and satirist, best known for his Discworld series. He wrote more than 40 books in this series, which have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 43 languages. Pratchett was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 and was knighted in 2009 for his services to literature. He was also known for his collaboration with Neil Gaiman on the book Good Omens.
