GENDA#2, Animals as Permanent Followers
with a text by Matteo Balduzzi
Animals as presences that follow, range ahead, wait, influence, hide and observe. Their apparition can be a mirror that gauges distance and formulates a bond of indifference or morbid obsession, dependency. A constant, everyday relationship that transforms them into food or into idolized objects of worship. Animals as absences that occupy, intuit, besiege, foresee, and shout to the others that we are there, we have entered that territory.

Genda is a magazine that connects Western and Eastern cultures. It has editorial teams in Italy and China that identify common themes and elaborate on them through misunderstandings and complicities. Genda was born from a misunderstanding: the name is a Western mangling of the popular Chinese word "Zhenda" (Really?) and is also the name of a flower commonly used in Hindu rituals.
The magazine contains material that is accidental, compressed, distant yet dangerously similar. Its symmetrical structure separates the two spheres, which are then recomposed and redistributed through the binding, leading to clashes and confluences between different cultures.
Genda is an independent and interdisciplinary object that proves the presence of things and the existence of occurrences. Each edition contains proofs and manifestations of the impact of the world on the authors, considering both language and translation. The magazine seeks the conditions to trigger new questions and contains apparitions that are recomposed in the pages by an incidental and unexpected element.
