Las partes y el todo / Parts and the Whole, Ignasi Aballí and Han Nefkens
Colección H+F
Catalog on the occasion of the photo exhibition 'Las partes y el todo' in 2008 in Centro Cultural Bancaja (Alicante, Spain) The exhibition was curated by Spanish artist Ignasi Aballí (1958)
This catalog brings together a selection of photographs by the Dutch collector Han Nefkens. It was the collector himself who suggested Ignasi Aballí, an artist from Barcelona with a long and established career, to select the photos from the H+F collection, with the idea of offering his own vision and new relationships between the works to discover. The title of the exhibition, The Parts and the Whole, refers to the duality between fragmentary visions of reality and visions that aim to show this reality from a more global point of view.
Among the selected pieces, the works that best match Han Nefkens' objectives stand out: works that stimulate thinking and renew the eye. They are images that demonstrate his closeness to painting, such as the works of Jörg Sasse and Stephen Shore; others in which the boundaries between reality and abstraction have been dissolved, as in the photographs of Roni Horn, Annika von Hausswolff, Thomas Ruff, Rinko Kawauchi and Naoya Hatakeyama, or finally works with social or political connotations, such as those of Gerald Van Der Kaap, Martine Stig, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Shirin Neshat.
