My dog is hiding in this book. Can you find him?

ENGELSTALIG BOEK / ENGLISH-LANGUAGE BOOK

Full English description below ↓

English description

Somewhere in every photograph, Momo is hiding. Sometimes the black-and-white border collie is immediately visible; sometimes it takes a careful search among trees, buildings, streets, fields and other details to find him.

Photographer Andrew Knapp discovered the game almost by accident. During walks, Momo would hide while waiting for Knapp to throw a stick. Knapp began photographing these moments and sharing the images online. The simple hide-and-seek game developed into a popular photography project and eventually into Find Momo.

Find Momo

Find Momo combines a seek-and-find game with photography and travel. Knapp photographs Momo in a wide variety of urban and rural settings, composing each image so that the dog becomes part of his surroundings.

That also makes this a book about looking. A photograph that initially appears to be primarily a landscape, street scene or architectural view changes as soon as Momo is discovered. Readers are encouraged to slow down and notice details that might otherwise go unseen.

The level of difficulty varies from photograph to photograph. Sometimes Momo's distinctive black-and-white face gives him away immediately; elsewhere he almost disappears among lines, shadows, vegetation or architecture.

Andrew Knapp and Momo

Andrew Knapp is a Canadian photographer and designer. His photographs of Momo attracted a large following online and on social media. Published by Quirk Books in 2014, Find Momo became the first in a series of books built around their photographic game of hide-and-seek.

The concept is simple enough for children, while the photography makes the book equally enjoyable for adults. Find Momo therefore sits somewhere between a photography book, a seek-and-find book and an unusual gift book.
