Dit boek toont het creatieve proces van Bharti Kher aan de hand van haar persoonlijke schetsen en aantekeningen.

Introductie

Sketchbooks and Diaries (2017) is een klein artist’s book waarin Bharti Kher een selectie publiceert uit haar persoonlijke schetsboeken en notities. Het boek verscheen bij de uitgever Corraini Edizioni en telt ongeveer 64 pagina’s met tekeningen, teksten en fragmenten uit haar dagboeken.

De inhoud bestaat uit schetsen die Kher maakte tussen 2013 en 2015, tijdens en rond haar artist-in-residence periode in het Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

Het boek fungeert dus niet als een traditionele kunstcatalogus, maar eerder als een blik in het denkproces van de kunstenaar.

In het boek lopen tekeningen en korte teksten door elkaar, alsof je letterlijk door Khers schetsboek bladert. Zij beschreef haar schetsboeken zelf als iets dat “haar brein bij elkaar houdt.”
