David Spiller (1942-2018) grew up in Swanley, Kent. At the age of 15, he started a graphic design course and later a fine art painting course. He developed a passion for music and studied at the Slade School of Art, where he won the Henry Tonks Prize for Drawing.
In the late 70s and 80s, he worked as a senior lecturer at Ravensbourne College of Art. In 1985, he visited the Cologne Art Fair, which inspired him to pursue his own artistic career. He moved to New York and Berlin, where he had solo exhibitions and regularly exhibited throughout Europe. His work is displayed in prestigious public and private collections worldwide.
Spiller's work draws inspiration from popular culture and childhood memories, combining styles such as Pop Art, expressionist painting, and hard-edge abstraction. Love is central to his work, with influences from the Beatles and Bob Dylan.
